The band "Crystal Lady" is a five piece rock band, native to St. Louis, that formed in December of 2014. Crystal Lady is made up of Webster University trained musicians, Chela Mancuso (voice), Aaron Brown (guitar), John Walker (mandolin), Ben Stitzel (keys) and David Michelson (drums).
Crystal Lady's original music explores a broad range of influence from grunge to jazz to psychedelic rock, dream pop and trip hop. The music is written as a collaborative effort by the band members, bringing several streams of individual influence into to each song, creating a sound totally unique to the band. Crystal Lady also plays a mix of original arrangements of rock, jazz and pop tunes. Since 2014 Crystal Lady has built quite the resume of live performance in the St. Louis area. They have played at several local venues including, The Sheldon Concert Hall, Blueberry Hill, Nathalie’s, Foam, The Kinda Blue club, The Dark Room, JP’s Corner, Pop’s Blue Moon, The Over Under Bar and Cicero's. For the first time, in May 2017, Crystal Lady will be hitting the road to add to their live performance experience. The band will be embarking on a two part tour around the midwest to introduce their original music to new ears around the country!
The band named themselves as a tribute to Mancuso’s aunt and musical inspiration, Josephine Mancuso, who owned the Crystal Lady Production company in Los Angeles in early 70s. Crystal Lady Production was dissolved after the passing of Mancuso’s aunt and the band has adapted the name to continue it’s legacy with plans to record original music that was written in the 60s and 70s by Josephine Mancuso, but was not released before her passing.
Crystal Lady is currently playing very regularly throughout the St. Louis area and is working on recording and producing their first album. The band’s current recording project, to be released in early 2017, is going to feature all original music, that will explore a broad range of genres and styles.
